Today was a very exciting day in Room One! After reviewing the vowels in our alphabet, I told the Kindergarteners that vowels can make 2 sounds- long or short. The long vowel sound is when a vowel says its name. We then turned over each vowel in our alphabet to review a long A , a long I, etc. We then tapped out words such as "vase", "tie", and "tail" to hear the 3 sounds- beginning, long vowel sound, and ending sound.
We then transitioned to Writer's Workshop where we used all the information in our mind files about Maggie to write her special book. As always, Ms. Dennehy led us through a demonstration of how to best draw Maggie based on her hair color, clothes, and other special features that make Maggie Maggie! We hope you enjoy this special book. :-) We also want to thank Maggie's mom, Kelly, for joining us as our Star Reader this morning.
This afternoon we were treated to a special Middle School Jazz, Strings, and Chorus concert. The Kindergartnerers enjoyed listening to the music and identifying the different instruments. A lot of them left the concert sharing about the instrument they're hoping to play "when they get older".
