We started our morning by talking about what it takes to be a friend. After brainstorming some ideas, the Kindergarteners did their May writing as they responded to the prompt, "How are you a good friend?". As has often been the case, the children did a great job sounding out their letters, making spaces between their words , and making sure that their words matched their picture.
We spent our math time in the computer lab working on Symphony Math. We continued to talk about "part, part, whole" and using strategies such as counting on and the number line to solve a problem. Symphony Math has helped to enrich this knowledge for many children and I am so happy to hear that many are doing Symphony Math at home!
We ended our day with a science exploration about wood. Working in pairs, children used paper clips and rubber bands to see which types of wood needed more paper clips to sink and which needed less (this came after discovering that wood floats!). It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to be scientists and to test out their hypothesis and predictions and then take an action based on their observations.
