What a fabulous week it has been!! We started our day by re-reading the chant about "Ten Hungry Monsters" and then matching the words to pictures in our pocket chart. We also reviewed rhyming words and asked the Kindergarteners to listen carefully and to find the word that didn't rhyme in a group of words which were presented orally. Rhyming is a fundamental skill to literacy as it helps children recognize patters among words, which eventually leads to spelling and recognizing words in print.
Ms. Pirelli, our school psychologist and guidance counselor, visited us today and read the book The Group Plan. She defined the group plan as a time where everyone's thought bubbles match, and everyone is therefore doing the same thing. The group plan can change and we need to look, listen and think to figure out the group plan. We then played "Follow the Leader" to practice following the group plan.
During math, we introduced our number counting book where children were asked to match their drawing to the specified number. We will continue working on these books next week.
We finished our day with Friday Fun where we played tag outside! We demonstrated safe tagging and practiced many different types of tag, hoping the children will choose to play these games during recess.
