The following are some highlights of our week:
* . We are now deep into our Place Value unit in math. Ms. Lepow joined us this week and supported the students as we learned how to count and show our thinking as we count up by hundreds, tens, and ones. Showing their thinking of this task has been one which can be challenging and is, therefore, "forcing" the 2nd Graders to slow down before jumping into an answer. We will continue working on this topic next week
* The 2nd Grade geologists had a chance to observe granite and to identify the color of the minerals which they observed with their science partner using a magnifying lens. Next week we will be reviewing all that we have been learning about rocks by making a graphing map
* . Today you should have received your first Friday letter! The 2nd Graders were very excited to begin this year long project. Please help us reinforce this excitment by writing back to your child by Tuesday of next week.
*During Fundations, we organized our magnet boards. The students now have all the glued sounds and closed-vowel exception sounds on their board. We will now start using these manipulatives to change sounds within the beginning, middle and end of words.
Questions to ask your 2nd Grader:
1. Please identify how many hundreds, tens are ones are in the following numbers: 765, 84, 301
2. What are some properties that you observed in the piece of granite?
3. Who is your teacher for Math RTI? What are you focusing on during this time?
4. Why is it important to slow down- especially during math?
5. What does it mean to "edit" your work?
