Wow! I am so amazed at the progression of the Kindergatener's writing in their journals! The children continue to follow the ABCD's of modeling and are labeling and starting to write more and more about their weekends. We also started this time with paired conversation where children ask questions about what child did over the weekend.
During Fundations, I introduced the sounds of o-octopus-o and c-cat-c. We learned that these are both plane line letters and we brainstormed words that start with each of these sounds.
During Reader's Workshop, the children looked for the word the (which we also added to our word wall) and held up a post-it with the word "the" each time they heard it and saw it in the story. We then had fun acting out the story with the many different characters! Some even chose to continue acting during our Choice Time this afternoon :-)
In math today , we worked in 2 groups- one group played the ten-frame memory game with Ms. Richlen and Ms. Lewis, while others explored number shapes with me. The number shapes will help the Kindergarteners recognize different combinations to create a specific number. We will use and re-use these a lot this year during math.
