Today we reviewed and explained the meaning of "The Pledge of Allegiance" during our Poetry time. The Kindergarteners were asked to cut and glue 5 pictures and match them to the words of the Pledge. We then read together and practiced our other poems and songs in front of the "fire". I hope that today's activity will help the children understand the words a little better as say the Pledge each morning.
Ms. Pirelli joined us today and we talked about the difference between telling and tattling. Tattling is meant to get someone in trouble, while telling is asking a teacher for help. We reviewed the importance of telling when something is a Double D.
During Fundations, I introduced the concept of syllables and that syllables are parts of words. As we said specific words, we held our hands under our chin and felt when our chin "dropped". This helped us to figure out how many syllables were also in our names!
During math stations today, we used i-Pads for the first time! We used an app called "Letter School" where we could practice how to properly form our numbers. Children also worked with me to use unifix cubes to make a number greater and lesser than a target number. Others continued to explore number shapes and count for the counting jar.
We ended our day with science. We looked at some of the pressed leaves that I had and looked at the edges of a leaf to determine if it was rough or smooth or even pointy. We also watched a video about trees which reviewed the different parts of a tree.
