The Kindergarteners truly left me speechless today during Writer's Workshop! For the first time, they had the chance to start writing their own stories. Using my own map of the heart, I modeled how to plan the pages, write lines for my words, and then write the words for my story. The Kindergarteners were so excited to write that we tried it (I was originally going to start tomorrow..). They worked for 45 minutes!!! I hope that they feel as proud of their work as I do. Please ask your child about his/her story.. We will continue these tomorrow.
During math, we spent our time in the Computer Lab using Symphony Math. As we start doing more addition and subtraction problems in the classroom, the challenges that they are facing during Symphony Math are becoming a little easier and more understandable. You can support your child by telling a simple story (such as , "there were 4 birds in the tree and 3 more came into the tree. How many all together?" and focus on the process of getting to the solution.
We ended our day with Choice Time. Some children chose to build in the block area, while others played Candyland. Others role-played in the Housekeeping area and others painted at the easel.
