The Kindergarteners were very excited to put our first sight word on our word wall today- you. We introduced this word with a drum roll and then we brainstormed sentences with the word "you". Sight words are commonly found words in the English language that, as the year progresses, we will expect Kindergarteners to recognize them in written print. We reinforced the word "you" by putting the Poem "Standing In Line" in our poetry folders and circling the word "you" in the poem. As you read with your child, see if he/she can find "you" in the books you read.
We had Learning Centers today where the children are now accustomed to making choices and changing choices on the choice board. Many have been interested in building with K-Nex , Legos, and blocks, while others enjoy listening to a story at the Listening Center.
We ended the day with a math activity called "Roll A Tower" where children rolled a dice, built what they rolled with unfix cubes, and then placed it on a game board. The goal of this game is to recognize the dots (or "pips") on a dice and to accurately count and build. We will have this game as one of our math stations next week.
