Our class did a great job welcoming Ky to our classroom. They were kind and welcoming and helped Ky learn about our routines and expectations. Today was also a great day to review our class rules and routines for the entire class.
During journal writing, we reviewed the ABCD of modeling- this stands for accurate, big, colorful and detailed, which is what I will expect from the Kindergartners when drawing a picture. They are beginning to also feel more comfortable writing words and labeling their pictures. I look forward to sharing these with you at our upcoming conferences.
I introduced the letters u-up-u and i-itch-i and explained that these are both vowels I went on to explain that vowels can have 2 sounds- long and short- and for now we are focusing on the short sound of both of these letters. This is a very difficult concept to understand and one that we will continue working on.
During math, we had new math stations! Ms. Lepow and Ms. Meindel joined us during this time. The Kindergartners worked with Ms. Richlen on a new counting jar, while others worked with me to grab, count, and record. We continue to talk about accurate counting and using a ten frame to help plan and count in an orderly way.
We ended our day with Cami's mom joining us as our Mystery Reader. Thank you for spending time with our class! :-)
