The Kindergarteners were very excited to get back to their stories during Writer's workshop today . As I discussed with the class, some children will write 10 books this year and some will write 2 books this year. I have found that the children who write fewer books are working just as hard (and sometimes harder!) than those who produce a lot of books! In Kindergarten, my goal is for each child to work at his/her own pace following the expecations that I have for that indiviudal child. Thank you for your support!
We also wrote back to our Pen Pals today as a group. By doing a "group write" the children are learning about conventions of print, sounding out words, and thinking about others as they write. Eventually, letter writing will be an option during Writer's Workshop time.
We started new Math Stations this afternoon. We are continuing to focus on shapes and the difference between 2-D and 3-D shapes. We are also working on filling a bigger shape with smaller shapes and copying a design that a friend has made- this has been an exciting challenge for many! Thank you to Maggie Wheeler for joining us during this time.
