Today during Open Circle, we reviewed what it means to be flexible. We then thought about examples where I reaction may not have matched the size of the problem. Children were very honest when sharing such things as big reactions to the change of the lunch schedule, frustration during our writing time, and so on. We reviewed our 5-Finger Breathing and I also introduced "Box Breathing".
During Fundations, we reviewed all of our letter sounds and sounded out many CVC words. I introduced the concept "short" and "long" vowel sounds and showed the symbol that goes above a vowel if the sound is short and if the sound is long. We then practiced writing on our white boards.
We ended the day by beginning to write a math story. We brainstormed what a math story could be about. A math story is simple: it sets the simple scene, something is added or taken away, and then has to be solved. The children will continue to work on these tomorrow morning at arrival time.
