This class continues to amaze us every day! Today, I tried something new and showed the class a silly picture of a dog with a butterfly on its nose. We spent about 15 minutes brainstorming ideas for what the picture was about and then I asked the children do some independent writing, not really knowing what to expect :-) Wow! They exceeded my expectations! Each child had a unique idea about the picture and all were willing to wite and sound out words with their best guess Kindergarten spelling. Some would like to finish their writing, while others opted to bring it home.
We also added a new poem to our poem folder. This poem was shared with us by Nishanth's sister, Annika, and its a poem about walking in line. The children loved it and then we had a nice sing-a-along by the "fire" as we sang our other poems.
We ended the day with math choice. Some children chose to work in their work folders and focus on tally marks. Others chose to go on a scavenger hunt, looking for things longer than and shorter than a pencil. Many Kindergarteners chose to build with legos and straws and worked very well together.
