Today we had a great start to the day as we shared about our weekends. The children were encouraged to think, pair share and to ask a question of their partner about what they shared. Then, we transitioned to journal writing, I encouraged the children to think of their words, think about spaces between their words, and to write at least 2 letters (beginning and ending sound) for each word. Many were very successful with this challenge!
We then introduced the sound of the letter B- Bouncing Ball and brainstormed words that begin with B.
For math today, Ms. Lepow, our math coach, joined us as we started new stations. At the Review Station, children worked with Ms. Lepow to determine what symbol (= , < ,>) was needed to complete the math sentences that were presented. At the lesson station, children counted and tallied items in the classroom. At the exploration station, the Kindergarteners made turkey families and counted up all the body parts! Finally, at the game station, one student was the teacher and used flash cards to see how rapidly their partner could determine what number was represented by the ten frame cards that were shown.
After Skills lab where children were introduced to Raz Kids, we ended the day by discussing the 2nd part of the Red Light when solving problems. After step 1 (calm breathing), step 2 entails self talk to figure out how one if feeling. Therefore, we practiced saying the words " I feel ___________ because ___________". I emphasized that these words are spoken before approaching a teacher or another person about the problem. We will continue to focus on the traffic light for problem solving techniques.
