It was a busy day in Room 1 today! The Kindergarteners started the day by sharing about their weekends, after writing a verb for the morning message. The children used this information to write in their Kindergarten Journals. Children were encouraged to have at least 2 letters (the beginning sound and ending sound) for each word written- many were successful with this challenge!
During Phonics, we introduced the short sound of "A" (Calling Lamb OR A Apple A)and worked on finger blending and segmenting some simple CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant ) words. The class loved doing this and this strategy will be a focus all year long.
During Math today, we introduced new Math stations and had a whole group lesson on tally marks! The Kindergarteners also enjoyed sorting, counting and graphing, and telling stories using a "story map" and fireflies, ducks, and frogs to touch and sort.
We ended the day with Open Circle where we introduced the use of a Traffic Light to help solve problems. Please see the handout in your child's folder for more information.
