Apples and Bananas!

The Kindergartners were very excited to learn about the long vowel sounds  in the alphabet. We discussed the fact that when a vowel says its name, this is the long sound of the vowel. We sang the song "Apples and Bananas" changing the vowel sounds as we sang! There was lots of fabulous laughter during this time. We also turned over the letter D and learned the chant D, Dancing Dinosaur and then brainstormed words that begin with the sound "D".
During Math today, we continued our math stations that we started earlier this week. These focused on figuring out one more and one less and then language of counting on.  The Kindergarteners also worked on following a pattern to make a creation with unifix cubes. Next week, we look forward to new math stations.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is  a share today- we had 4 fabulous shares today! Two children told a story about their families, while another child shared a book that she "wrote" and another child shared a game that he made out of paper and scissors. Please remember that sharing is completely optional- it is a great opportunity for  children to listen to others and to learn the art of asking a question.  For others who are ready t talk in front of others, sharing is a great chance to practice speaking skills.
