Today we introduced another new reading strategy, in addition to Eagle Eye. Lips the Fish encourages readers to look at the first letter of a word (along with looking at the picture) to figure out an unknown word. We worked on this strategy during Literacy Centers. We will continue our Literacy Center groups on Thursday.
Other centers during this time included making a book about compound words, making a book to introduce the sight word my and sorting words by their ending sounds.
During Math today , we continued the math stations that we started yesterday. The Kindergarteners are becoming very accurate counters and are able to figure out more than and less as well as figure out "how many more" or "how many less". On Thursday, we will be introducing the symbol for more than and less than.
We ended our day with Learning Centers. The Kindergarteners enjoy this time so much and love making choices which enables them to play and interact in a more informal way with their peers. Some children played "CandyLand" while others worked on sorting ending sounds using our pocket chart. Others played with the dollhouse while others used figure rings to represent different numbers. It was a great way to end our day!
