After being at a social thinking conference the past 2 days, I was so excited to get back to the classroom and share some of the new activities I learned! We started with our "High 5 Friday" greeting where children would choose a partner to greet by using his/her eyes. This took time but we discussed the importance of looking at someone with your eyes as it helps them have good thoughts about you.
We also spent time with Ms. Kaplan this morning where she reinforced right and left as well as correct pencil grip. The children were given step by step directions to draw various animals. We will continue to provide these types of activities for the children to support their drawing.
During our Fundations time, we used a new picture tool to emphasize elongating the vowel sounds. We also looked at sentence structure as we substituted and changed words within a sentence.
For science today, we tried an experiment where we mashed up a leaf and then soaked it in isoporpyl alcohol. Our Kindergarten scientists hypothesized that the alcohol would dry up the leaves and then absorb the chlorophyl in the leaf to reveal the leaf's true color. Ask your child what he/she observed!
We continued thinking about nature as we took a nature walk around Loker School to find items on our scavenger hunt. It was a beautiful day to take a purposeful and discover our back woods.
