The following are some highlights from our week:
* During math, Ms.Lepow joined us this week and helped to introduce a new math game called "Capture Five". This game requires that children strategize to use equations to capture each other's playing pieces on a number grid. We will continue playing this game next week! We continued to work on place value, and identifying the value of each digit in a number. Also, we continued to use the number grid as a tool to add 10, 1 and 100 to a number
* During Writer's Workshop, the 2nd Graders continued to work on their narratives, adding transition words and editing their work. Thank you, also, to those who responded so promptly to your child's Friday letter. The children were very excited to write back today and share our most recent work with you.
*During science, we reviewed the properties of rocks and pebbles with a graphing map. We also identified sand, gravel and pebbles by using a measured square to identify each particle by its size.
Questions to ask your Kindergartner:
1. What was our "3 Act Task" about today? How did you figure out how many coins went into the machine?
2. What is bigger- sand or gravel?
3. When you feel like you might interrupt someone, what is something you can do?
4. What is the base word in "crosses"? What are some other suffixes you can add to the base word?
5. What were some facts you thought about when making your skeleton yesterday?
