Ms. Kaplan joined us this morning for her final formal session with our class. We continued to talk about "engine speed" and how we get to the "just right speed". She explained to the class how our 5 senses can help either make us more awake or more calm, depending on what we need. For example, smells like vanilla can help us to be calm, while mint might help to wake us up. Food can also change our engine speed- crunchy snacks can help wake us up too.
During Fundations, we used our magnetic boards to change and manipulate sounds to make new words. The Kindergarteners showed a tremendous amount of pride when doing this. Vowels continue to be a bit tricky, and this is why we will continue to do this activity a lot during the year.
After reading Tally O'Malley, we introduced "tally marks" during math. I emphasized how the 5th line goes over the 4 lines to create a group of 5 (this can be confusing to many because we focus so much on groups of 10 in Kindergarten). The class then had fun rolling a dice and representing the number rolled with tally marks.
We finished our day with playing 2 games of kickball for Friday Fun! Each child had a chance to kick and run while the team in the outfield tried to get the ball back to the teacher. It was a great way to end our week together!
