We started our morning with a sharing of Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a dream" speech. The Kindergarteners were truly mesmerized as they watched Dr. King speak and understood the essence of his "dream" about all people being treated fairly and with respect. Ask your child what he/she thought about the video and what they have learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. .I challenged the children do to a random "act of kindness" on Monday to honor Martin Luther King. Examples we discussed would be holding the door for someone, setting the table without being asked, cleaning up his/her room, or writing a kind a note to somone. I look forward to hearing about these acts of kindness on Tuesday. :-)
The children did a fabulous job during Writer's Workshop writing about Julia, our star of the week. As a class, we brainstormed some sentence starters and then the Kindergarteners worked quite independently
During math today, we spent time in the computer lab on Symphony Math. Now that we have formally introduced addition as a whole class, the problems presented during Symphony Math seemed a little easier.
Mrs. McManus joined us today and read to us the book Zax by Dr. Seuss. Our discussion was focused on the two characters who had a small problem to solve but had big reactions. We also reviewed the special chart Mrs. McManus has shared with our class to help us understand the importance of matching the size of our reactions with the size of the problem.
We also had a great time with our buddies today! They taught us how to make snowflakes to help make our classroom feel like a winter wonderland. It was a great way to end the day.:-)
