Some highlights of our week include:

* . We began to edit and solidify the items on our timeline.  The 2nd Graders were asked to create full sentences and to make sure that their events were in chronological order. Next week, we will begin putting all of the events of a timeline which the 2nd Graders will share with you at our Open House.

* . We culminated our Place Value Unit today by asking the students to "show us what they know" on the unit end assessment.  During Math Stations, the 2nd Graders have worked hard to count by 100's,  and 10's and to explain their thinking and comprehension of expanded notation, regrouping, and solving different word problems. I will plan to send home copies of their assessments next week.

* . During Fundations, we focused on syllables this week- as a way to decode words as well as a way to spell words .  The 2nd Graders used their magnet words to create words such as "dentist", "mascot", and "complete", thinking about the fact that every syllable has a vowel.

* On Thursday, we were treated to an energetic Cultural Enrichment Performance of Ill Style and Peace- we learned about different types of dance, music, and the importance of believing in yourself.

Questions to Ask Your 2nd Grader:

1. What were the different layers you observed in your vile during science this week? (sand, water, silt)

2.  Please start at 345. Count by 10's to 425.  What was your strategy?

3. What is a writing rocket?  What are some things that are expected to be in the beginning, middle and end of your story?

4.  What is a veteran?

5.  Which part of math stations do you enjoy most- the lesson with Mrs. Wyner, the game, review, or Symphony Math? Why?
