At Morning Meeting, we reviewed teen numbers by doing exercises based on the teen number that I wrote. We then did 10 of one exercise and then how many more we need to make the teen number. "12" is a number which continues to confuse many children-- we will continue to reinforce the difference between "12" and "21".
During Fundations today, I introduced the symbols that are used to indicate if a vowel is making a short vowel sound (breve) or a long vowel sound (-). I introduced these symbols as a way that children can recognize these symbols when looking at a dictionary. We also used our magnetic boards to identify sounds and to create words.
We used all this knowledge to write our book for Elyse, our Star of The Week. Ms. Dennehy modeled how to draw Elyse and the Kindergarteners wrote what they have learned about Elyse this week. We hope you enjoy your special book, Elyse!
We ended our day making lephrachaun traps! We'll see if any leprauchans visit us over the weekend :-)
