Today the Kindergarteners had the opportunity to meet Grace Lin, a children's author and illustrator. Grace Lin began a "Community Book Stop" at her daughter's school when she recognized that a lot of children's literature was not representative of her cultural or of the diverse cultures in our world. With her inspiration, Loker School was granted a grant from the Wayland Public Schools Fundation and we have created our own Community Book Stop. Located in the lobby, this is a place where there are books representative of different cultures, family structures, and diversity of our community. You are more than welcome to browse the colllection and to then sign out a book with your child. I am also excited to read some of the books with our class!
We also drew and wrote about Brian, our Star of The Week, today. After Ms. Dennehy's demonstration for how to draw Brian, each child wrote 2 sentences about what he/she learned about Brian this week. We hope you enjoy your special book, Brian!
Friday Fun was a messy one! As a group, we made the paste (using flour and water) for paper mache. We then used newspaper strips and our paste and put it around a bowl. We are hoping that the paper will harden and then we will paint the "pots" for a special holiday coming up next weekend (surprise, surprise)! We will then plant flowers to also go in the pots:-)
