The Kindergarteners worked very hard today and did a lot of fine motor work. We finished up our handwriting rotations, as children continued to strengthen their power fingers by using playdough, fruit loops, and spaghetti! See below for more pictures. We also wrote in the first page of our All About Me books. The children were asked to write about something that they enjoy. Ask your child what he/she wrote/drew about.
We read the book Tuckers Best School Day and reinforced the idea of bucket filling and having small reactions to small problems. This book also provided a nice opportunity to talk about our "thought bubbles" and keeping things in our thought bubbles and not putting them into our "speech bubbles". We will continue these discussions throughout the year.
During math, we focused on number sense. For the numbers 4-8,the children rotated through tables and were asked to show one number in multiple ways. For example, for the number 5, children would show 5 red unifix cubes, 3 red cubes and 2 blue cubes, 4 white cubes and 1 red cube, etc. I took pictures while they did this which led to a very rich discussion at the end of our math time of how numbers can be represented in many different ways.
We ended the day with Friday Fun. As a class, we played the boardgame "Kids on Stage"- we ended the day with lots of smiles and giggles!
