We started our day with the "shoe greeting"! During this time, each child was asked to take off one shoe. When it was your turn, each child was asked to close his/her eyes, pick a shoe, and then greet the person whose shoe was picked. Not only was this greeting a lot of fun, but it also encouraged the children to greet new children and to notice something about someone else.
We finished our handwriting rotations this morning, and then continued on to our All About Me books. After reading I Am Special, the Kindergarteners completed their first page in the book asking what the enjoy doing. We will continue writing and drawing in these books as a way to teach good habits of writing (sitting up straight, using the materials properly and doing our best work) while writing about ourselves.
During math today, we used the computer lab and went on Symphony Math. Symphony Math is a skill based math program where, based on a quick skills assessment, children are placed on a level where "everyone gets what they need". After the children are comfortable using Symphony Math at school, I will let you know and then it will become a voluntary activity to do at home.
