We had a fabulous Friday today. Mrs. Kaplan, an occupational therapist, joined us this morning for the start of a 6-week program. During this time, she will be focusing on "left-hand" and "right hand", proper grip, and writing techniques and strategies. Today, the children put a bracelet on their right hand and dipped their right hand in red paint and their left hand in green paint. We also listened and danced to songs about using our right and left hand.
We also learned our first letter during Fundations. T-Top-"t". In your child's folder, you will find their first handwriting page. We talked about how you write "t" by "staring at the sky line, going down to the grass line, and crossing on the plane line".
During math, we started our math counting book. This book will help to reinforce careful counting and thinking of multiple ways to represent a number. During morning meeting, we also introduced the concept of estimating as we asked the children to estimate the number of cubes in a bag.
We also read the books The Wind Blew In (getting us ready for fall ) and a student's favorite, You're My Best Friend.
