We had a fabulous Fall Fun Discovery Time this morning. Thank you to the many parents who came in to volunteer and to those who sent in the many supplies that we needed. The Kindergarteners were busy decorating pumpkins, painting with acorns, pounding pumpkins, and even trying to make a candy corn tower. The children were very busy and engaged- it was a wonderful way to start our day.
We also wrote in our journals. Thank you to those parents who have been e-mailing me with suggestions/ideas for their children about what they did over the weekend. It is very helpful for your children when they say "I can't remember what I did.". We worked on thinking about a sentence, figuring out how many words in the sentence, and then trying to stretch and write one word. The KIndgarteners are very determined to hear the sounds and then to write the correct letter- they are truly doing a fabulous job!
We also started new math stations today. At the lesson station, children used unfix cube to identify how many letters in their name. We then compared the number of letters in their name to the children in the group. Later this week, we will do a graph looking at the length of all the children's names! They also played Spin the Spinner and reviewed counting a scattered array. It was a very busy time in Room 1!
We finished our day with Open Circle where we talked about ways to handle annoying behavior. We suggested that instead of saying "Stop!", we should say "I don't like it when you________. Please stop". We role-played some different scenarios using this language. We hope this language will transfer over to the classroom as well as at home. :-)
