It was so great to be back in school today and to hear about everyone's adventures over the long weekend! The children thought, paired, and shared about their weekends and then did a great job drawing, labeling, and writing their words in their journals. The Kindergarteners continue to improve each week at hearing the beginning and ending sounds of their words!
We opened up our "mind files" this morning as well when we started to learn about Trevor, our Star of The Week! Trevor shared his poster and had a chance to take questions from his classmates about his favorite things to do, foods to eat, etc. We look forward to learning more about Trevor as our week continues and then writing a special book for him at the end of the day.
During math, we started new math stations, focusing on comparing and using the terms "greater than" and "less than". At the lesson station, we played the game "Stack and Compare" where the KIndergarteners "broke" stacks of cubes and compared how many more and how many less. They also had the chance to play Top It with ten frames and used the same language. We will continue these activities tomorrow.
During Open Circle, we discussed the gift of a compliment and described it as the best gift ever! I went around our circle and complimented each child, asking for the response of "thank you". Compliments are an easy way to be a bucket filler!
Thank you to Ted Keenan who joined us as our Mystery Reader this morning- we appreciate your spending some of your time with us. :-)
