It was so great to see all the children today after our long weekend. Each child had a chance to share with the class about his/her weekend and then to write about it in his/her journal. The vowel sounds are really starting to become more solid and the children are also able to work more independently each week.
We continued with Literacy Stations this morning and will be beginning new rotations tomorrow. This time is when the children are in small groups rotating between stations of independent reading, playing a game, participating in a guided reading group and working on Lexia. They seem to really look forward to this time and are making huge strides in their strategies for reading as well as developing a love for this time, as Ms. Dennehy and I do.
We finished up our math stations which we started before Thanksgiving and reinforced the language of "greater than" and "less than" as well as "how many more" and "how many less". You can reinforce this at home by asking your child questions such as "We have 2 plates at the table, but need 3 plates. How many more plates do we need? How did you figure that out?". Explaining their thinking is something we are focusing on during this time and throughout the year.
