It was so great to be back in school and to hear about everyone's Thanksgiving Day happenings! The children enjoyed sharing what they did as well as listening to their friends talk about their activities with their families. They used these thoughts to write in their journals this morning. The Kindergarteners worked hard to INDEPENDENTLY hear the beginning sounds in all their words. They are feeling very proud of the fact that they can now read back a lot of their writing. Also, thank you to all of you who send a quick e-mail /note about your weekends- it continues to be very helpful.
We reviewed writing the letter "M" during handwriting as well as writing our names. We are reminding the children that "slow and steady wins the race". We would rather a child doesn't complete their handwriting page, but works carefully to do nice and neat work.
We started new math stations today. We are focusing now on comparing numbers and being able to put numbers in sequential order. Therefore, at the lesson station, children took a stack of 4 cards and were asked to put them in numerical order. This was harder than tney thought! We will continue these stations tomorrow.
During Open Circle, we introduced the traffic light as a way to help solve a problem. Red reminds us to stop and breathe. Yellow reminds us to brainstorm and think of all the possible ways to solve the problem. Green tells us to go. We will be using this analogy a lot as a way to help children solve "annoying" behaviors.
