We started our morning with our weekend journal writing. Wow! The Kindergartners come in to school with such great ideas and are very motivated to write, sound out their words, and draw their pictures. I think they are feeling as proud of themselves as we are feeling about them! The vowels are the most tricky, but so many are using our philosophy of the fact that your brain grows when you make a mistake, that they are embracing this challenge!
We used word frames during Fundations and the Kindergarteners had to figure out how many frames were needed for a sentence that I spoke. We emphasized the words that needed to be capitalized (names and the first words of a sentence) and this seemed to make sense to many and others are observing and participating.
During math we started new math stations. The children continued to play Uno, while others were asked to put numbers in order and were challenged to write tally marks to represent the numerals on the page! Some KIndergarteners worked with me to complete an activity called "Towers, Towers" where they figured out the amount of cubes in a tower based on other towers. We also practiced writing on our special U-shaped table. Ms. Lepow, our math coach, also joined us during this time to assess the KIndergarteners with their counting skills. I will also be working with each child individually on this counting assessment.
