The snow outside our window was a main focus of our morning- "can you believe it snowed?", "how much do you think it snowed?", "when can we go play in it?" were many of the exciting questions we heard as the class came into the classroom. We did go outside for an extended period. Please help to remind your child to pack all gear so all can play and enjoy!
We also wrote in our journals this morning and we focused on making sure that there are spaces between our words. We also reviewed our trick words, reminding children to write the words "went, and, you, and to" the right way in their writing. We also focused on these trick words during Reader's Workshop where children were given a post-it to mark any pages where they found these trick words.
Sam , our new Star of The Week, shared his poster with the class and we added to our mind file about all that we learned about Sam today. Did you know that Sam wants to be a scuba diver when he grows up?
We also started new math stations this week- focusing on measurement. The children were asked to measure pieces of string using little teddy bears. Our goal for this activity is to ecourage measurement from end to end of an object. Also, children walked around the room looking for items shorter or taller than a chair. However, instead of walking around with a chair, we measured a chair with a piece of string and this is what was used to determine the items. Children worked with me to sequence a set of cards that were out of order. They were asked to put the numbers in order from least to greatest.
