We had such a fabulous day today! The children were all so excited to play in the snow and happy to be in school. They continued their fabulous work in their Writer's Workshop journals this morning after spending time orally sharing with a friend about their weekend. We discussed different adjectives (describing words) that can be used in their writing. The progress is truly amazing!
We introduced two new sight words -do and it and used them in sentences. Tomorrow, I look forward to turning over our last 2 letters in the alphabet!
Ms. Lepow, the math coach, joined us for Math Stations this afternoon We are continuing to work on addition and subtraction equations and some Kindergarteners learned the Racing Bears game which others will be introduced to tomorrow. This game focuses on complements of ten as children race to get the "token" at the top of the game board.
We ended our day with Open Circle about tone of voice. Ms. Dennehy and I modeled saying one sentence in two differnent tones of voice and asked the students which one sounded better and would more likely help others have good thoughts about us. Ask your child to tell you more about this discussion.
Finally, we have filled our second bucket. The following is a copy of the letter that was sent home today (for some reason the pictures/color didn't copy....):
WE’VE FILLED OUR SECOND BUCKET!!
We will be having our celebration this Thursday, January 28thJ
The Kindergartners have voted to have a crazy hair, pajama and movie party. As always, please help your child chose an appropriate “style” of hair and pajamas to help them continue to learn during the day and to be warm enough during recess. The “movie” is called Antartica and is a 25 minute PBS documentary about Penguins.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Of course, participation is completely optional J
