We started our morning by"think, pair, and share"-ing with a partner about our weekends. We focused on adjectives (describing words) to think about our weekends. Describing words were also part of our morning message. As part of our morning meeting, the children also participated in a "Go Noodle " activity which entails following directions for balancing, stretching, and getting our brains and bodies ready for the day.
During Writer's Workshop, we continued to focus on the following 4 following steps of writing: thinking, planning, writing, and then illustrating. The journal entries continue to improve week after week- we can't wait to share them with you!
During math today, we started new math stations. Thank you to Evan Maddocks for volunteering and running our "game station". Ms. Lepow also joined us today and helped to lead a station about rekenreks ( you will see them in the pictures below- they are the red and white "abacus" used for counting) while the other children explored pan balances and worked with a friend to count and compare.
During phonics today we turned over the letter G- Gulping Gopher and brainstormed words that begin with G.
We ended our day with Open Circle where we read the book The Gift of Nothing by Patrick McDonnell. During this season of gifts, I like to read this book which gives the message that even though everyone wants "something" sometimes "nothing" is the best gift of all. Check out the book- I think its message is quite powerful. :-)
