As a Kindergarten team, we were so impressed with the flexibility of the KIndergarteners today. They did such a fabulous job adapting to a new classroom, while understanding that we still had work and learning to be accomplished. We were able to share about our weekends and to write in our journals. We are emphasizing where and when to use capital and lower case letters and this seems to really be transferring to the children's writing.
During math, we measured things in our "new" classroom compared to our feet. The Kindergarteners worked in pairs to find items that were longer or shorter than their foot. This was especially exciting to do in the Maker Space which had all new things to check out!
We ended the day talking about Martin Luther King, Jr. We created a chart writing down what the children think they knew about MLK. I then told the children the "story" of MLK and about a time not so long ago when people were not treated fairly, just because of what they looked like on the outside! We will continue this discussion tomorrow.
