We started our day with Mateo's dad joining us to read The Almost Fearless Hamelton Squidlegger as our Mystery Reader. Thank you for spending part of your morning with us.:-)
We then transitioned into Writer's Workshop where I introduced the concept of syllables to the class. We figured out how many syllables there was in each child's names. I shared that breaking a word into syllables can help us sound out words (eventually , I will explain that each syllable has a vowel..). I think this concept was certainly helpful to some and will be a concept we will continue to discuss. The Kindergarteners continued to use unifix cubes to help plan and write their words. They are becoming experts on hearing the begininning and ending sounds of many of their words, AND reading back their sentences.
We started new Math Stations this afternoon, continuining to focus on the plus and minus symbol. Working with me at the Lesson Station, the children made a 20-train and had to add or take cubes off their trains based on spinning a plus or a minus. Likewise, others worked with Ms. Dennehy to add and subtract pennies using a ten frame. Ms. Hartnian, Jack's mom, volunteered as well and helped the Kindergarteners play "more or less top it". Thank you so much for joining us!
We ended our day discussing what it means to be a positive leader. I will be talking about Martin Luther KIng tomorrow, and this discussion was a purposeful segway to our discussion tomorrow. Ask your child what he/she thinks makes a postive leader.
