The first day of the month is always an exciting day! During morning meeting, we spent time looking at the February calendar and figuring out all the special events going on -- 100's day, Valentine's Day, three birthdays, President's Day, and a week of school vacation.. WOW!
We transitioned quite easily to Writer's Workshop where we looked at some student samples and shared what we thought the Kindergarteners did well in their journal. We noticed lots of colors, people were labeled, at least 2 sentences were written, and the children did not seem to rush through their work. When the Kindergarteners went to work on their own journals, we saw the same amount of diligence and hard work. :-)
During math today, we started new math stations. Thank you to Emily's dad, Matt Davids, for joining us and helping children practice their measurement skills. We also used already made equations to tell number stories, and some children continued their tile configurations and Racing Bears game.
During Open Circle today we talked about the way tone of voice can either help or hinder problem solving. Ms. Dennehy and I role-played some real situations- in different tones of voice- and the Kindergarteners collectively agreed that problems are solved best when using a calm and kind tone of voice.
Finally, in your child's folder today is an invite for our 100's day Celebration next week and information about Valentines Day. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. :-)
