It was so great to be back in school today, and to hear about what all the children did during the vacation week. The Kindergarteners were very excited to share and then to write about their adventures in their journals. We reviewed many of the strategies for sounding out words and also had a chance to share a few children's journals.
During Phonics today, we also introduced the short sound of the vowel "i"- giggling pig is the chant for this letter. We then sounded out a few one-syllable CVC words that have the sound of short i. The Kindergarteners enjoyed the challenge of finding a short i word as they wrote today.
We also started to learn about Evan, our Star of The Week this morning!
Evan did a great job sharing his poster and we added to our mind file for all the things we learned about Evan. We look forward to guessing his clues tomorrow.
During math, we started new math stations. We are continuing to focus on part, part, whole. At the lesson station with me, we introduced the actiivty of "grab bag subtraction" where childrne had to figure out the missing part of the whole that was in the bag. This proved to be a challenging task to many!
