Happy Leap Year Day! We did all types of math equations this morning related to today's special date. Mr. Jones asked the class when the last leap year was, and with this information we figured out our age at the next leap year and how old we were last leap year. It was a lot of fun!
During Writer's Workshop this morning , the Kindergarteners worked hard to write and draw about their weekends. We talked about when to use a period and making sure that your sentence makes sense to the reader.
We also formally began Reader's Workshop this morning. We will have Reader's Workshop twice a week. The children have a choice to either read independently, read with their book group, or to write about their reading. There is a checklist they are asked to complete at the end of each Reading Workshop period. When the checklist is complete, he /she will receive a bookmark!
We also started new math stations this week, focusing on 2-dimensional shapes. The children answered riddles based on shape desciptions and learned the hexagon game. Other groups continued to work on math word problems, as well as looking at the number grid to identify and figure out where numbers belong. We will continue these stations tomorrow.
