Today was a very exciting day in Room 1. We started Math Shuffle (also known as Math RTI)! During this time, we joined with Room 2 to create small groups where children "get what they need" based on their understanding of comparison of numbers. Comparing numbers will be our focus for the next month during this time.
The Kindergarteners also worked hard during Writer's Workshop. We purposely reviewed how to write the word "with" as we are noticing that many children write this word as "wif". Tomorrow, we will introduce the "H Brothers" which help us know the sounds for "CH", "TH", "WH" and "SH".
We also started new math stations today, continuing to focus on shape recognition and position words. At the lesson station, the children were asked to place shapes in certain places such as "below the red rectangle" or "next to the blue circle" to work on this understanding. We also introduced exploragons which are math manipulatives which allow children to use lines to create and change shapes. Next week, we will use the exploragons at the Lesson Station.
