We started to learn about Caleb, our Star of The Week, today! Caleb did a terrific job sharing his poster and the Kindergarteners were able to add a lot of new information to their mind files about Caleb.
We also had Maggie's brother, Edge, and Maggie's mom join us as Mystery Readers. They read Don't Touch The Button as well as a funny book about dinosaurs. Thank you for joining us this morning.
The Kindergartneners also wrote in their journals this morning. Their challenge was to not use the words "fun" and "happy". We modeled different ways to show that you were having fun or feeling happy. Ask your child how he/she was able to rise to this challnge.
We also started new math stations. At the lesson station, the children were introduced to the concept of mental math and figuring out equations in their minds and explaining their thinking. This was challenging to many. We also played "Make 5" where the chidren were asked to find the addend when given an addition problem to 5. While this may seem like a rather simple concept, the process of explaining their thinking is one that wil be a good model for biggern numbers and ewuations.
