Our day started off very successfully as all children transitioned quietly to our classroom and started their morning activities. We were very excited to welcome our new student, Jemima, and I was so impressed at the warmth and support shown to Jemima by our class. Welcome, Jemima- we are so happy to have you!
We wrote in our journals for the first time today! After doing a "think, pair, share",all the children had a thought about their weekends (thank you for previewing this with your child) and were happy to draw about it in their journal. I modeled first what was expected and the children worked for about 20 minutes in their journals- using pencils and colored pencils to depict one activity from the last few days. We will write in our journal every Monday.
Mr. Jones joined our class today and read Whole Body Listening Larry. He taught us that we can learn with 8 parts of our body- our mouths, our ears, our eyes, our hands, our feet, our hearts, our brain, and our whole body! Thank you for joining us, Mr, Jones! :-)
We officially started "Fundations" today . I introduced Echo, our Fundations mascot, and had the children "echo" the different handwriting lines that we will be using- the skyline, plane line, grass line, and worm line. I also taught them a new alphabet song which slows down around the letters "L, M, N, O, and P" to help distinguish each letter. We also practiced using our white boards and markers.
During Reading Workshop, we used pictures to think about the emotions and feelings of the animals and Mrs. Wishy Washy in Mrs. Wishy Washy. Please encourage your children to use the pictures to predict what words are and what might happen in a story when reading to them.!
During math, we learned about our "attendance stick". We made our attendance stick by each child adding a unifix cube to create a big stick which shows that we have 19 children in our class. Each morning, each Kindergartner will take a unifix cube to put along side the attendance stick. This will help us to figure out if all children are here, if some are missing, and we will then create an equation based on this information.
