The Kindergarteners entered the classroom with a lot of excitement this morning, eager to share about their weekends. We used this excitement during our "think, pair, share" where children paired up with a partner to tell about his/her weekend. The Kindergarteners then wrote about their weekends in their weekend journal. Thank you, again, for brainstorming with your child abut his/her weekend before coming to school- it certainly made it easier for them to think of something to share and then write about.
We did new fine-motor rotations, continuing to think about our power fingers, while adding "texture" to the rotation. Children had the chance to use shaving cream, play do, and sand to have sensory input, while practicing careful coloring and used a dropper to make beautiful fall leaves!
We started our first Math Rotations today! At the "lesson station", children worked with me to represent different numbers and to think about conservation of numbers. In a Kindergarten sense, that would mean adding 2 to 6 to make 8, rather than starting from 0. Others worked on their number books, while another group continued to practice grab and record. The class did a fabulous job with these rotations, understanding the difference between a teacher-led station and an independent station.
We had our first Open Circle today! The Kindergarteners practiced safely bringing their chairs over to the circle during this time. Open Circle will be a time when we will introduce vocabulary such as "Dangerous and Destructive", annoying vs. dangerous, and will role play and discuss how to solve problems.
