Happy Monday! The Kindergarteners did a fabulous job writing in their weekend journals today! Many had ideas of what to write- thank you for helping to give them some ideas. Today we focused on labeling the people and things in our pictures to better help the reader understand what is being written and drawn. The children also took a picture walk around the classroom to see what their friends were working on during this time.
During math, we started math stations! During this time, children are working in small groups- either at an exploration station, review station, or a lesson station. Today, I taught at the lesson station where we focused on showing different quantities. We discussed how if you have 6 cubes and then want to show 4 cubes, you can just take 2 cubes away instead of starting from the beginning. This was a big cognitive step for many. Ms. Lepow also helped us during this time and assisted with the review activity of "Grab and Count".
We read the book Johnny Appleseed today as we begin our study of apples. Ask your child if he/she remembers why Johnny Appleseed is so important. We also had our first Mystery Reader! Henry's mom joined us to read Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and some short stories from Richard Scarry. Thank you for spending part of your day with us!
