What a perfect day for apple picking!! After a fun and fabulous hay ride, the children had the chance to learn how to pick ("pull and turn") apples. We picked Gala apples and we hope that they came home for your to enjoy! The Kindergarteners also had the chance to look at the animals on the farm, including goats, pigs, and chickens. They were then able to pick a pumpkin to bring home. Thank you to Heidi Renneker and Melinda Keegan for helping to chaperone the trip today.
When we got back to school, we had lunch and then math stations. At one station, the children used "inventory" bags to review counting accurately , while another group played "build it", a game we learned last week. At the lesson station ,the children counted with number shapes, which is a way to teach "subitizing" or quickly figuring out a specific quantity (by figuring out patterns in a configuration) rather than counting each item.
We ended our day learning about Wyatt, our Star of The Week! During this time, I showed the Kindergarteners my file cabinet and introduced the term "mind file". Ask your child what he/she put in their mind files about Wyatt today.
