During Poetry today we introduced the sight word- the. The children have now been introduced to the following sight words: me, I , you and the. By the end of the year, it will be expected that children can read and recognize all the sight words that are introduced. We practice this daily through poems, morning messages, and games in the classroom. The KIndergarteners enjoyed finding the word "the" in the poem "Five Little Pumpkins". See if your child would like to sing the song to you!
Ms. Pirelli joined us this morning and read the book Decibella by Julia Cook which describes 5 different types of voices: Whisper voice, Six inch voice, Table-talk voice, Speak up voice, and an Outdoor voice. We role played different scenarios and asked the children if we were using the right voice volume. We also talked about tone of voice which was portrayed beautifully by a Kindergartner who said "Excuse me, Mrs. Wyner" in 2 tones of voice- one expected (which brought about comfortable thoughts) and one in an unexpected way (which brought about uncomfortable thoughts)-- ask your child why it's important to have a nice tone of voice.
After Learning Centers this morning, we continued to do our Zen Dan yoga which has made the transition to lunch much smoother and calmer. We will plan to continue this exercise as a way to help the class make transitions in an expected way.
The Kindergarteners enjoyed School Meeting today as they listened to Michael Henrich, a Loker parent and a Fox 25 news reporter discuss the role of the media.
