Today we added a new poem to our poetry folders- "Standing In Line". We also learned to recognize the word you and added it to our word wall. When you are reading to your child, try to stop and point out the words you and me- these are words that the Kindergarteners should recognize.
Ms. Pirelli joined us and read Making Friends Is An Art. We told the class that we will have a new student, Ky, joining us on Tuesday. We role played how we welcome a new friend and how it can feel to be new to a new classroom environment.
We formally introduced our word wall today. The word wall is a tool in our classroom where children can look to spell specific words we have learned in class. Today we put each child's name on our word wall and explained that all names are put under the letter with which they begin.
During science, we formally began our unit on trees and leaves. We took a school yard walk and recognized the fact that all trees have roots, trunks, branches and leaves. The children worked in their science journals to label the parts of the tree. Tomorrow, we will draw one specific tree which we will follow through the seasons.
