We started our morning with a new poem about December! The Kindergarteners were very excited to create their own December calendar AND to recognize many sight words in the poem. We also talked about Christmas and Hanukkah being in December and vacation the last week of the month!
Ms. Pirelli joined us this morning and read to us the book My Mouth is A Volcano by Judy Cook. This book does a fabulous job explaining how we have so many thoughts in our thought bubbles that sometimes we feel like a volcano that is ready to erupt!! Ms. Pirelli gave us some strategies to use when waiting to let others talk (such as taking a deep breath, clasping our hands together and pressing our thumbs together, rehearsing what to say in your thought bubble). We discussed how this is really hard to do , but important to practice so others have good thoughts about each of us.
We had Learning Centers today. The Creativity Center has become quite popular where children can make things out of recycled materials. We could use more recycled materials! Things like paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, boxes (of any size), tops to Go-Squeeze, bottle caps, egg cartons, etc. would be appreciated! You can feel free to send them in at any time.
We ended our day with Math Choice. The KIndergarteners built with Straws, played "Race to 20", worked in their independent work folders, and/or played a dice game where they had to cover what they rolled. Many also enjoyed making owls out of a number of different shapes that were provided. Ask your child what he/she did during this time.
