Today we started the day with some fabulous sharing during morning meeting. The Kindergarteners are choosing to share stories, crafts, and artifacts collected on vacation or even at home. We have noticed a tremendous improvement in our students' abilities to explain their thinking, to ask a question, and to give compliments to their friends.
We also introduced a new poem today called "Thumbs in Thumbs Place" See if your KIndergartener can sing it to you! During this time we worked on the sight word "the" as well as understanding the difference between a glove and a mitten.
Ms. Pirelli, the school psychologist also joined us today to read about "standing in someone's shoes". She introduced the term empathy and led a discussion about ways a Kindergartener might show empathy to his/her peers and family. We will use this vocabulary in the next few weeks as we discuss Martin Luther King, Jr.
During Writers Workshop today, each child made a snowman and wrote a response to the book Snowmen At Night. Feel free to check them out- they're hanging outside of our classroom!
We had math choice today where children could pick among many different activities- two favorite activities were shaving cream to practice number writing and ten-frame dominoes. A lot of fun was had- we will have these same stations next week.
Our day ended with Adajah's mom joining us at our Mystery Reader. Thank you, Elmide, for coming in today.
