We started our day with school meeting. We learned about acts of kindness and the idea of "paying it forward". The 5th graders put on a skit reinforcing these ideas and Mr. Jones also showed a video of the way that kindness can grow.
Claire's mom and dad joined us as our Star Readers and read 2 fabulous books- one about a whale and another that was written in "bug language" which Claire "translated" for us- it was quite a fun time in Room 1!
Ms. Pirelli joined us after recess and we read Stand In My Shoes and learned about empathy and how hard it can be to understand someone's else's feelings. I shared a time when I experienced empathy and the Kindergarteners had a chance to share their stories as well.
We also wrote Claire's book today for her Star of The Week, so our day can be focused on play tomorrow. After Ms. Dennehy demonstrated how to draw Claire, the children wrote and drew their own pages showing what they have added to their mind files this week about Claire.
We finished our math stations today as we continued to talk about 3-Dimensional solids. Vivian's mom joined us to help children with their hunt around the classroom for 3-D shapes. Thank you for joining us today :-)
